The history of the handcuffs:
In the Middle Ages, handcuffs consisted of semicircular curved iron halves attached with locks or simple mechanical devices such as hammered rivets and connected with a chain. From the early 1860s, handcuffs with "modern" locking mechanisms were introduced. The first handcuffs with multiple locking positions also appeared in the 19th century.
On February 20, 1912, the still-common principle of the bow arm, which swings around a pivot point through a double bow attached to the lock housing, was patented in the US.
